I guess it's because the actual motor is out on the end of the 10-foot pole. Ordinarily, the motor would be on the back, with a mechanical transfer to the cutting head. I'm sure this arrangement is much easier and cheaper to build, but it makes the saw very unwieldy.

Works great, powerful but works most efficiently if used on a solid surface, such as a tree limb or branch. I tried, hopefully to cut multiple smaller bush branches and it dislodged the chain. Fortunately, for me, the access to the chain etc. is easily accessible! In other words, great tool, but use it for what it was intended,
