I searched online for a mulching kit for my brand new Bad Boy 54 inch mower. It directed me to the Bad Boy website. The website said the kit I purchased was fitment correct. I spent almost $400 on it. When I received it, the instructions were vague but I could make them out - it looked like the photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy. The piece that covers the original exhaust shoot area has two holes in it that fill up with grass. On the middle piece, the holes did not align so I had to go out and buy a $30 hard metal drill bit to drill another hole to make it fit. Also, I had to make quite a few adjustments to stop the blades from hitting it. Finally, I had to take a grinder and grind down the welds so the blade would have clearance. The blades are not marked as to which side is up, but it was easy enough to figure out. The piece on the far right near the exhaust had to be mildly bent to fit perfectly. It seems to work well although but in grass that is the least bit thick it bogs the mower down completely and the clutch starts to make a burning or belt slipping burning smell. I only use this bad boy mower when the grass is not that thick. Overall, likely a waste of money. If I had to sum it up, it was a very bad purchase and it’s making me question whether or not I wasted my money on this mower as it may not be as good as I originally thought.
At first I bought the mulching blades, I wasn't happy with the cut. After that, I even added the chute blocker, it still left CLUMPS of grass on my yard. But after I replaced them with the mulching kit, I am really happy with the cut quality now. My mower is chopping the grass into fine pieces, and doesn't leave any clump either.
